NBC’s Keith Morrison Confronts Lori Vallow-Daybell About Her Children’s Deaths in New Dateline Documentary

NBC’s Keith Morrison Confronts Lori Vallow-Daybell About Her Children’s Deaths in New Dateline Documentary

In Friday’s Dateline documentary about convicted murderer Lori Vallow-Daybell, NBC’s Keith Morrison directly asks her if she witnessed the deaths of her children. The question is part of a new teaser for the documentary, released on Wednesday, where Morrison asks Vallow-Daybell if she was present during the murders of her children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old J.J. Vallow.

“I’m asking you a question,” Morrison says. “Did you watch your children die?”

“That’s a sad question,” Vallow-Daybell replies.

In 2023, Vallow-Daybell was found guilty by an Ada County jury of murdering her children and conspiring to kill Tammy Daybell, her then-boyfriend and now fifth husband, Chad Daybell’s wife. In July 2023, she was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole by Seventh District Judge Steven Boyce. Vallow-Daybell’s case is currently being appealed at the state level. Chad Daybell was convicted of the same charges last year and is on death row in Idaho.

The documentary shows Vallow-Daybell, handcuffed and shackled, being led to an interview room at the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona, where she is being held on conspiracy to murder a former relative and for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, who was also J.J.’s adoptive father.

Despite her grim situation, Vallow-Daybell doesn’t seem too concerned. As she walks to the interview room, she winks at the camera. She also winked during a court hearing in 2023 when the death penalty was removed from the table. At her sentencing, she made a statement referencing the New Testament, saying, “Ye with the least sin, cast the first stone at her.”

Morrison asks Vallow-Daybell if she feels misunderstood, to which she responds, “Absolutely.”

Vallow-Daybell also expressed frustration with the media, saying they tend to turn tragedies into crimes. “I had a lot of tragedies in a row,” she said. When Morrison listed the four victims of the killings, she quipped, “Are you keeping track?”

She also claimed that one day, both she and Chad would be vindicated, citing a vision in which they were free from prison. “I’ve seen things in the future that Jesus told me in Heaven,” she explained. “We were not in jail. We were in the future.”

In a YouTube video released on Wednesday, the interview between Vallow-Daybell and Morrison became tense. “Can I joke with you, Keith?” she asked. “I thought we were going to be friends. Get your facts straight.”

Vallow-Daybell then challenged Morrison, saying, “Get your facts straight. How old are you, Keith?”

Later, Morrison was interviewed by Phoenix television station “12 News” about the documentary. He said, “I think she’s been wanting to do this for quite some time.” Now that Vallow-Daybell is representing herself, she is free to speak openly, he noted.

Morrison described Vallow-Daybell as quick, sharp, and at times sarcastic and flirtatious. “She’s charismatic and a very difficult person to interview,” he said. “She had her own agenda in telling her story, and I knew her story wasn’t true.”

The interview left Morrison feeling exhausted, saying he felt like taking a nap after speaking to “the most hated mom in America.”

Vallow-Daybell is expected to go to trial on March 31.
