Details of Visitation for Longtime Bears Owner Virginia McCaskey Announced

Details of Visitation for Longtime Bears Owner Virginia McCaskey Announced

Virginia McCaskey, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday, passed away at the age of 102. Former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt shared heartfelt words in honor of her on her birthday.

The family of Virginia Halas McCaskey, the iconic owner of the Chicago Bears, has announced visitation details following her death. McCaskey, the longest-tenured NFL owner, took over the team after her father and founder, George S. Halas, passed away on October 31, 1983.

Her visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, located at 2099 Miner Street in Des Plaines. A private funeral mass for family and friends will take place the following day before her entombment.

“While we are sad, we are comforted knowing Virginia Halas McCaskey lived a long, full, faith-filled life and is now reunited with the love of her life on earth,” said the family in a statement. “She led the Bears for four decades, making decisions with the best interests of the team, players, coaches, staff, and fans in mind.”

Born in 1923, McCaskey grew up in a legendary football family, with her father George Halas both founding the Bears and the NFL. He was the team’s player, coach, and owner from its inception until his death. McCaskey became the principal owner after his passing, with her son Michael assuming the role of team chairman in 1999, followed by her son George in 2011.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his condolences, saying, “Virginia Halas McCaskey, the matriarch of the Chicago Bears and daughter of George Halas, the founder of the NFL, leaves a legacy of class, dignity, and humanity. Her faith, family, and football were her guiding principles, and she lived by the simple adage to always ‘do the right thing.’”

McCaskey’s tenure as Bears owner spanned over four decades, with her leadership rooted in her love for the team and its fans. She made it a point to attend games and was present for eight of the Bears’ nine World Championships. She guided the team to its first Super Bowl title in 1985.

Her commitment to family, faith, and football was evident in everything she did, as she supported those working with the Bears to do their best for the team. McCaskey, who always preferred to stay out of the limelight, worked to instill a family atmosphere throughout the Bears organization. Her belief in the Bears’ fans was unwavering.

McCaskey’s charitable work included the establishment of the Bears Care program in 2005, which has donated over $31.5 million to various agencies, improving the lives of those in the Chicagoland community, especially disadvantaged children and their families.

Born in Chicago to George and Min Halas, she was the oldest of two children. McCaskey attended St. Scholastica Academy and later Drexel University, where she met her husband, Edward W. McCaskey. They married in 1943 and had 11 children together. After Edward’s passing in 2003, McCaskey continued her work with the Bears until her death.

She is survived by six sons, three daughters, 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

At the 2025 NFL Honors, Bill Belichick's six Super Bowl rings weren't the only thing catching attention. The legendary coach, now leading the University of North Carolina's football team after his long tenure with the NFL, arrived in New Orleans looking dapper. But the real star of the night? His 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.

Hudson, a former pageant contestant, turned heads on the red carpet in a sparkling silver sequin dress paired with a football-shaped purse, which was a playful nod to Belichick’s iconic career. However, it was the massive diamond on her left ring finger that set the internet abuzz.

Rumors have been swirling for weeks about whether Belichick and Hudson have taken their relationship to the next level. The couple, who reportedly met in 2021 and have been dating for about a year, haven’t confirmed anything, but the ring has sparked plenty of speculation. Fans have been eager to analyze every angle of the red carpet photos, wondering if it’s a promise ring, a statement piece, or an engagement ring.

Despite the buzz, Belichick, known for his quiet nature and avoiding media narratives, has not addressed the rumors. But that didn’t stop fans from eagerly scrutinizing Hudson's ring finger for clues.

Regardless of their relationship status, Belichick and Hudson appeared to enjoy the evening. Belichick sported a burgundy sports coat, looking more relaxed than his usual sideline persona, while Hudson confidently walked alongside him, radiating ease in the spotlight.

Their relationship has been an unexpected subplot in Belichick's post-Patriots life. After leaving New England, where he built a legendary dynasty, the 72-year-old coach embraced a new challenge at UNC, with Hudson by his side through it all. As for a wedding? That’s still a mystery. But if there’s one thing Belichick is known for, it’s keeping things under wraps—until the big moment arrives.

g Sharpe inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Sterling Sharpe inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Sterling Sharpe has been officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2025, consisting of four legendary figures in football, was announced during the "NFL Honors, presented by Invisalign," a primetime awards special broadcast on NFL Network, FOX, and NFL+. The newest Hall of Fame members are defensive back Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, tight end Antonio Gates, and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe.

Sharpe joins his brother Shannon Sharpe as the first siblings to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Other father-son pairs in the Hall include Tim and Wellington Mara, Art Sr. and Dan Rooney, and Ed and Steve Sabol.

The 2025 class, the smallest since 2005, follows a historical pattern as it marks the 19th instance of a class with three or four inductees since the Hall’s inception in 1970. Eric Allen and Jared Allen learned of their election via surprise knocks at their doors, while Gates and Sharpe experienced a “reverse knock,” where a Hall of Famer delivered the good news in person. These moments will be featured in a special, “The Hall of Fame Knocks: Class of 2025,” airing on NFL Network on February 8 at 10 p.m. ET.

The individuals who shared the news with the newest inductees include Randall McDaniel (Eric Allen’s college teammate), Steve Hutchinson (Jared Allen’s pro teammate), LaDainian Tomlinson (Antonio Gates’ pro teammate), and Shannon Sharpe (Sterling Sharpe’s brother).

This selection marks the culmination of a comprehensive process that saw the Hall of Fame Selection Committee narrow down the candidates from an initial list of 167 nominees. The final list of inductees was determined after thorough reviews by the Selection Committee and specialized subcommittees for coaches, contributors, and senior candidates. The process was audited by Ernst & Young LLP, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the voting.

The Class of 2025 will be enshrined on August 2, 2025, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Tickets for the enshrinement ceremony will be available soon, and weekend packages are already on sale through On Location.

The 2025 inductees are:

Eric Allen

  • Position: Cornerback
  • NFL Career: 1988-2001 (Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders)
  • Highlights: 54 interceptions, 6 Pro Bowls, 4 pick-sixes in 1993.

  • Position: Defensive End
  • NFL Career: 2004-2015 (Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers)
  • Highlights: 136 sacks, 5 Pro Bowls, 4 career safeties.

Antonio Gates

  • Position: Tight End
  • NFL Career: 2003-2018 (San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers)
  • Highlights: 116 career receiving touchdowns (most by a tight end), 8 Pro Bowls.

  • Position: Wide Receiver
  • NFL Career: 1988-1994 (Green Bay Packers)

LA Lakers Injury Report: Will Mark Williams Play Against the Golden State Warriors?

LA Lakers Injury Report: Will Mark Williams Play Against the Golden State Warriors?

Mark Williams' availability for the game against the Golden State Warriors hinges entirely on how quickly the LA Lakers can finalize his signing.

The LA Lakers' chances of having Mark Williams for their game against the Golden State Warriors depend on how swiftly they can complete his signing. If the paperwork is sorted in time, both Williams and Luka Dončić will be available for the matchup.

Highlights:

  • Mark Williams' participation against the Golden State Warriors depends entirely on how quickly the Lakers can finalize his contract.
  • The Lakers secured Williams through a recent trade to address their issues at the center position.
  • After trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers are hopeful that Williams can fill the void left by Davis.

The Lakers recently pulled off another trade, adding Mark Williams, a talented center known for his ability to address the team's struggles at the five spot. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the details of the trade, which involved sending rookie forward Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round pick, and a 2030 pick swap to acquire Williams.

What Does Mark Williams Bring to the Lakers?

Williams could be a crucial replacement for Anthony Davis, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. A dynamic and athletic player, Williams has averaged 16.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. However, his durability remains a concern—Williams has played in only 22 games this season due to knee and foot injuries.

If the Lakers can tap into his defensive potential, as suggested by JJ Redick, Williams could become a key anchor for the team. His ability to protect the rim and be a reliable pick-and-roll partner for stars like LeBron James and Luka Dončić makes him an intriguing asset.

Williams boasts an impressive 74% shooting efficiency, which solidifies his value as a strong addition to the roster. If he performs well, it would be a big win for the Lakers. However, if he doesn’t meet expectations, the Lakers may have invested heavily in a player who still has much to prove.

Meanwhile, rookie forward Dalton Knecht has made a solid impact, and the draft picks involved in the trade show the Lakers are committed to this move. Only time will tell how this trade works out for both Williams and the Lakers.

A Polymarket Whale Made Significant Late Bets on Josh Allen Winning NFL MVP

A Polymarket Whale Made Significant Late Bets on Josh Allen Winning NFL MVP

In just one hour on Thursday afternoon, the odds on Polymarket for Josh Allen winning MVP surged dramatically from 53% to 94%.

Josh Allen’s victory over Lamar Jackson for MVP on Thursday night took many NFL fans by surprise—but not, apparently, for one well-informed bettor on the futures contract platform Polymarket.

Over the past week, and especially on Thursday, one individual placed significant bets to push Allen’s odds higher, despite the prevailing belief that Jackson was the likely MVP. In a mere hour on Thursday afternoon, Allen’s chances jumped from 53% to 94%.

While Allen entered the regular season as the MVP favorite, Polymarket's odds shifted when Jackson earned first-team All-Pro honors. Both MVP and All-Pro awards are voted on by the same 50 AP voters, and for the past 11 years, the first-team All-Pro quarterback has won MVP. The last time a quarterback overcame a first-team All-Pro QB to win MVP was John Elway in 1987, long before Allen or Jackson were born. Allen now becomes just the third player in NFL history to win MVP despite not making first-team All-Pro.

Jackson received 30 first-team All-Pro votes, while Allen had 18, with the remaining two votes going to Joe Burrow. According to the voting totals released Thursday night, 27 voters chose Allen as their MVP, while 23 ranked Jackson first. Jackson also earned MVP votes from players and the Pro Football Writers of America. At Thursday’s NFL Honors, Saquon Barkley was named Offensive Player of the Year, with Jackson finishing second and Allen placing sixth.

Unlike American sportsbooks such as FanDuel and DraftKings, which had closed MVP betting weeks ago, Polymarket operates as an unregulated offshore exchange where individuals place bets against each other instead of the house.

In the past month, the Polymarket whale is believed to have wagered over $600,000 on Allen to win MVP, particularly as Jackson’s All-Pro selection seemed to give him an advantage. It remains unclear whether the bettor had a lucky instinct or possibly insider knowledge regarding how the 50 AP voters cast their ballots.

Approximately $3 million in total had been wagered on Allen’s MVP win, with the whale responsible for about a fifth of that amount.

Neither the NFL, the Associated Press, nor Polymarket responded to requests for comment.

The AP voting panel this year included figures such as Tom Brady, ESPN analyst Mina Kimes, Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy, and former MVP Rich Gannon. Writer Mike Florio reported on Thursday night that he had an MVP vote and ranked Jackson first, while ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky had previously revealed he also voted for MVP this year.
