ALDI has recalled over 4,800 packages of its Happy Farms cheese in Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania due to potential metal contamination. The recall, which started on February 15, 2025, has no set end date. The FDA issued a Class II recall notice to Great Lakes Cheese Co., the supplier of the Happy Farms brand, on March 19.

ALDI, a well-known cheese retailer in the U.S., has pulled over 4,800 units of its Happy Farms cheese from shelves in four states due to concerns over metal contamination. The states affected by the recall include Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The recall was first initiated on February 15, 2025, and is ongoing with no fixed end date.

While ALDI voluntarily issued the recall in February, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent a Class II recall notice to Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc., the company responsible for the Happy Farms brand, on March 19 due to the potential presence of "foreign material" in the affected cheese.

How to Identify the Recalled Products:

The recalled product is Happy Farms Colby Jack cheese, a blend of Colby and Monterey Jack shredded cheeses. The affected products have best buy dates of July 13 and July 14, 2025. If you have already consumed or stored these products, ALDI advises customers not to eat the cheese further.

ALDI offers a variety of cheeses under its private label brands, such as Emporium Selection and Happy Farms. While the specific suppliers are not publicly disclosed, some of ALDI’s cheeses are produced by well-known manufacturers. For example, Carr Valley Cheese, an award-winning Wisconsin-based company, produces ALDI’s Cocoa Cardona cheese. Additionally, in Spain, Aldi works with Oldenburger for certain cheese varieties.
