Jack Lilley, 'Little House on the Prairie' Actor, Passes Away at 91

Jack Lilley, the actor and stuntman best known for his roles on Little House on the Prairie, has passed away at the age of 91. His son, Clint Lilley, confirmed to Fox News Digital that he died "peacefully in his sleep" at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Calabasas, California, on March 19, 2025.

Lilley appeared in multiple roles on Little House on the Prairie, with his most notable role being a stagecoach driver who frequently transported characters between towns. He was also featured in several made-for-TV movies within the Little House franchise, including Little House: Look Back to Yesterday (1983) and The Last Farewell and Bless All the Dear Children (1984). Actress Melissa Gilbert, his Little House co-star, paid tribute to Lilley on Instagram, highlighting his many contributions to the series, including his work as Victor French’s photo double and his appearance in the iconic film Blazing Saddles.

In 2002, Gilbert and Lilley reconnected while working on a western pilot for ABC. She fondly recalled their reunion: "I walked to the set itself and before I could even focus I heard a familiar voice holler, ‘Hey Halfpint, you old rat-ass!!!’"

Lilley moved to Los Angeles from Texas as a child, following his father, who rented horses to movie studios. He later followed in his father's footsteps as a stuntman, contributing to over 280 films throughout his career. His son, Clay Lilley, now operates the Movin' On Livestock horse rental business in New Mexico.

Tributes have poured in from family and friends. Clint Lilley described his father as a one-of-a-kind figure who had seen the evolution of Hollywood and taught his children the value of hard work and humility. "It’s a privilege, it’s a blessing to be in the industry," Clint said. "He wanted to make sure we were grounded."

Melissa Gilbert shared heartfelt memories of Lilley on Instagram, calling him "one of my favorite people on the planet." She remembered him teaching her to ride a horse when she was young, emphasizing his kindness and patience. "Jack always felt like home to me," she said. "I am so lucky that he was my friend."

Clay Lilley also shared a moving tribute to his father, describing him as a storyteller, joker, and "heck of a horseman." He concluded, "You left one heck of a mark on this world, Papa. Your laugh and spark in your eyes when you saw the ones you loved will stay with us forever."
