Philadelphia 76ers End Seven-Game Losing Streak with Victory Over Cleveland Cavaliers

Paul George and Tyrese Maxey combined for 59 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a much-needed 132-129 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, ending a seven-game losing streak. George contributed 30 points, including six three-pointers, while Maxey added 29 points to propel the Sixers to a crucial victory.

Philadelphia had been struggling, dropping to a 15-27 record and falling out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. Their latest loss, a 144-109 defeat to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, had been particularly painful.

"It's a good bounce back," Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said. "Sometimes those games happen," referring to the blowout in Denver. "I didn’t think it was an indication of how we were playing as a team. The players responded, they practiced well yesterday, prepared well tonight, and played really well."

The game was a back-and-forth affair with the lead changing hands 30 times. The Sixers seemed to have sealed the win late in the fourth quarter, going up by eight points after a George layup with 1:26 remaining. However, Cleveland made a push, narrowing the gap to just one point with 12 seconds left following a three-pointer from Ty Jerome. Maxey then iced the game with four clutch free throws.

"Denver came out and punched us in the mouth, but we’d been playing well before that," Maxey said. "We just couldn’t close it out. Tonight we closed it out, and that was good for us."

Alongside George and Maxey, four other Sixers players scored in double digits, with Kelly Oubre Jr. contributing 22 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals. Eric Gordon and Justin Edwards each added five points.

For Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell led with 37 points, while Ty Jerome and Darius Garland chipped in with 33 and 26 points, respectively.

The win gives the Sixers a boost as they attempt to get back on track after their recent struggles.
